CONTROL CABLES (IS: 1554 PART – I) 1100 VOLT GRADE PVC CABLES

DAKSHA CABLE Control cables are made of  Electrolytic copper with high grade PVC coating .These cables are used for control purposes or measuring circuits in generating stations, Sub-stations , industrial installations etc. as well as in railway signalling . These cables are generally GI wire armoured and hence can withstand rough installation and operating conditions and tensile stress ; they can also be installed indoor or outdoor , in air or in cable ducts .   

General Construction :

1. Insulation :

The conductors are insulated with high grade PVC compound / HR PVC / Polyethylene.

2. Core Identification :

Cores are identified by colour scheme of PVC insulation . The following colour scheme is adopted

 1 Core – Red , Black , Yellow or blue

 2 Core – Red and Black

 3 Core – Red , Yellow and Black 

 4 Core – Red , Yellow , Blue and Black

 5 Core – Red , Yellow , Blue , Black and Grey

For cables more than 5 cores . Two adjacent cores (counting and directional) in each Layer are coloured Blue and Yellow respectively and the remaining cores are light Grey, Alternatively cores are grey in colour and numbered at every 100 mm interval .

3. Inner Sheath:

For all cables having two or more cores, a common covering (Inner sheath) is applied over the laid up cores by e   xtruded  

sheath of PVC.

4. Armouring :

Armouring is applied over the inner sheath. The armour consists of galvanised Round steel wires.

5. Outer Sheath :

 Over the armouring or in the case of unarmoured cables, over the inner sheath a tough outer sheath of high grade PVC is extruded. This is generally Black in colour.

CABLE DESIGNATION CODE:

DAKSHA CABLE  type designation is based on the following nomenclature:-

 

A   – Aluminium Conductors – when first letter of type designation. When type designation does not contain ‘A’ in the beginning, then the cable is with copper conductor.

 

Y  – When first or second place in type designation, it stands for PVC insulation.

 

W  – Round steel wire armouring.

 

F   – Formed Steel wire armouring.

 

Y  – When last place in type designation, it stands for PVC sheathing.

 

The manufacturers’ name and trademark DAKSHA CABLE along with the year of manufacturing and voltage grade are embossed on the outer sheath. DAKSHA CABLE are also embossed with the word HR 85 for heat resisting insulation and FRLS for Fire Retardant Low Smoke type of cables.
